Franchi Model 48AL Super Deluxe 12-Gauge Shotgun (1955)
1955 Franchi Model 48AL Super Deluxe 12-Gauge – Italian “XI” Proof – No U.S. Import Marks Observed
Offered is an exceptionally well-preserved Franchi Model 48AL Super Deluxe 12-gauge semiautomatic shotgun, manufactured in Gardone Val Trompia, Italy, and proofed in 1955.
The shotgun is reported to have been purchased and owned in Austria before coming to the United States. No U.S. importer markings are visible in the photographs or on the exterior surfaces examined. This absence is noteworthy on a European-market example, but prospective buyers should review the detailed photographs and confirm the markings for themselves.
The receiver is adorned with crisp, extensive Italian scrollwork engraving believed to be factory-applied. The engraving remains sharply defined, without obvious evidence of heavy polishing. The shotgun retains attractive checkered walnut furniture, a gold-colored trigger, ventilated-rib barrel and Franchi’s lightweight long-recoil action.

Condition
The shotgun presents in exceptional cosmetic condition for its age. The barrel retains strong blue, the engraved receiver panels remain bright and sharply detailed, and the walnut shows only limited visible handling wear. No obvious cracks are visible where the buttstock meets the receiver, a point worth examining on vintage Model 48AL shotguns.
The photographed magazine tube, bronze friction ring and internal fore-end components appear clean, with limited visible wear and no obvious heavy carbon buildup or pitting. These observations are based on visual inspection only. The shotgun has not been represented as test-fired or professionally inspected, and no guarantee is made regarding firing history, mechanical condition, bore condition or the originality of every component. A qualified gunsmith should inspect it before firing.
Collector Notes
An early Super Deluxe retaining sharp engraving, attractive wood and no observed U.S. importer markings is an uncommon and appealing example for collectors of fine European sporting arms and vintage semiautomatic shotguns.
